MARCH 17 IRAQ PRAYER FLAG
MEMORIAL PROCESSION RECAP

848 persons was the official CodePINK count for the Blowin' In The Wind Iraq War Prayer Flag procession participants. This count does not include those who arrived to view the mourning/hope ceremony.

Flags with the names of 3,210 U.S. soldiers who have died in Iraq were carried through downtown San Luis Obispo. Note: The number is now 3,218.

Over 850 people showed up for the March 17 tribute. This was a significant jump over previous CodePINK sponsored events and we hope that more people will begin to speak out against the Iraq occupation.

Nine CodePINKers, dressed in burkahs and black veils, keened and danced mournfully for all who have died in Iraq since the US invasion on March 19, 2003.

The ceremony ended with children and adults dancing amid the flower petals sprinkled on the ground by the dancers in an expression of hope for the future.

Fifteen represenatatives of SLO CodePINK joined the Bring the Peace Mandate to DC from January 27 through January 29. Dawn and Lynne were part of a group that met with one of Barbara Boxer's aides.
